Please tell us about your current line of work and how you got started in it. Please include any awards or upcoming projects.
I currently labor as an actor, author, poet, screenwriter, playwright and musician. My most recent projects are gracing the stage in the play The Diary of Black Men, and putting the final touches on my novel Flowered Heart.
I've been writing poems all my life. Was a break dancer and hip hop artist since early teen years. Entertainment came quite naturally so I jumped at every opportunity across several mediums.
Do you have any mentors or sources of inspiration?
Paul Robeson, Teddy Pendergrass, Redd Foxx, Donald Goines, Joe Morton to name a few.
What parts of your work do you enjoy most? Why?
The energy of performing in front of a live audience. Watching my work onscreen with family and friends. Any connection with people concerning storytelling.
What are your favorite things to do when you have free time?
Spending time with family has become more important as I've become older. Dancing, singing, reading, playing spades, get-togethers with a grown and sexy crowd. Bowling, Martial arts, boxing. Pool.
Are there any dream projects you'd like to pursue?
Producing my own projects. Playing the lion in The Wiz. Playing Teddy Pendergrass or Billy Preston in a story about their life.
